Most stores have an aisle completely filled with cleaning products. While many of these products are effective, they also can be dangerous to use. Most commercial cleaning products contain harsh ingredients that can pose a danger to you and your family if they are used incorrectly.

It is precisely because of this that more and more families are turning to natural cleaning products. One of the most effective cleaning products available is something that you probably already have in your cabinet – white vinegar.

The acidic nature of vinegar makes it a powerful disinfectant. It also does a great job of cutting through grease and effectively neutralizes odors, making it a wonderful tool to have in your cleaning kit. Below are five effective ways that you can use white vinegar to clean your home:

1. Clean your windows and mirrors

Make homemade glass cleaner by mixing vinegar with an equal amount of water. Use a spray bottle to apply the mixture to glass surfaces, wiping them clean with a soft, dry cloth. Alternatively, you can also use a squeegee to remove the excess liquid.

2. Dissolve hard water deposits

Because vinegar is acidic, it does a wonderful job of breaking up hard water deposits. If you live in an area with hard water, try using it to periodically clean your shower head. All you have to do is take your shower head off, place it in a container filled with vinegar and allow it to soak. After a while, use a soft brush to brush the hard water deposits away, allowing the water to flow freely through your shower head again.

You can also periodically run a mixture of water and vinegar through your coffee maker to remove any hard water deposits from the water line. As an added bonus, the vinegar helps clean and disinfect the inside of your coffee maker, ensuring that your coffee always tastes great.

3. Clean your floors

Instead of expensive floor cleaners, try using a mixture of vinegar and water. The vinegar does a great job of cutting through dirt and grime and leaves your floors shiny and clean. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about any sticky residue from the cleaning solution being left behind on the floor.

A word of warning, however – avoid using this technique on floors that are made of natural stone or real wood. It works best on man-made flooring materials such as laminate, vinyl, and linoleum.

4. Clean the inside of your microwave

Put a small bowl filled with a 1:1 mixture of vinegar and water in your microwave. Microwave it on high for a couple of minutes, allowing the microwave to fill with steam. Remove the bowl and wiped down the inside of the microwave. The steam from the vinegar and water will have softened any residue, making it easy to wipe away.

5. Clean your shower doors

Vinegar is effective at removing soap scum and hard water spots from shower doors. Spray a vinegar solution on the surface of the doors and allow it to set for a minute or two. Then, wipe it away with a squeegee to leave your doors shining like new.

These are some of the most effective ways to use white vinegar to clean your home.
